Standard Administrative Desktop Workstation Recommendations

The following hardware and software recommendations are intended for Administrative Desktop PCs. These recommendations are provided as guidelines for basic hardware purchase, general use software configuration, and followed by Administration Application add-on software.

Recommended Hardware - Desktop PCs

Although these minimum requirements are recommended, administrative applications such as PeopleSoft, Banner and Contract Administration will work most effectively with greater processor speed and RAM. Please take these into consideration as you plan your purchases.

Standard Administrative Desktop Software Suite Tested with Microsoft Windows Patches

OIT-ITS is responsible for testing windows operating system patches with applications defined in the standard administrative desktop suite. Refer to that document for a list of those applications.

Additional Helpful Information

  1. If purchasing a laptop, please refer to OIT's wireless card recommendation.
  2. Georgia Tech currently has PeopleSoft HRMS 8.8 and FIN 8 in production with PeopleTools 8. PeopleSoft Inc. supports these production versions on the Windows 2000 or higher operating system. EIS extends support to Windows XP.
  3. Georgia Tech currently deploys Internet Native Banner (INB) Web Forms in production. SCT supports Windows 95, 98, NT 4.0, and 2000, however, EIS dropped support for Banner GUI on Windows 9.x. EIS recommends Windows 2000 or higher operating system for Banner desktops.
  4. Netscape is not recommended for PeopleSoft desktop users.
  5. Netscape versions 4.76, 6.2, and 7.x are recommended with SCT's INB Web Forms desktop users. Internet Explorer 6.0 is also recommended and supported.
  6. Eudora is the recommended email client for PeopleSoft FIN AP/PO workflow desktop users.
