Instructional Tools

The Office of Information Technology (OIT) provides instructional tools to the faculty on the Georgia Tech campus.

WebCT

WebCT is course management software that enables instructors to create and manage web-based learning activities and course materials. Some of the easy-to-use WebCT course tools include a discussion area, chat room, whiteboard, email, student presentation area, grade book, quizzing and survey tools, student progress tracking tools, interactive calendar, video and audio streaming abilities, external website and CD ROM linking features, and many others. WebCT is very easy to use. The interface provided by WebCT is primarily point-and-click and is accessed by use of a web browser such as Internet Explorer. There is no software to distribute. No experience with HTML or other technical knowledge is required.

To get more detailed information about WebCT, visit Georgia Tech's WebCT website.

Computer Labs

There are three computer labs on campus that OIT supports. The newest is the Library West Commons. Check out more detailed information on these labs at our computer lab pages.

Technology Enhanced Classrooms

Around Campus

There are many classrooms on campus enhanced with the latest technology. This gives faculty more innovative ways of teaching. To get more details on classrooms that we support around campus, check out our classroom technology pages.

In OIT

We also have an enhanced classroom in OIT. The Instructional Technologies Development Center (ITDC) is room 242 in the Rich Building. This room is outfitted with a full complement of the latest teaching and presentation technologies and is made available to any faculty member who wishes to use it. This room has great potential and it is up to the user to explore that potential.

To find out specifics of what is available in the room please follow the links below.

Streaming Media

This is a full production service that offers any faculty, staff, or department the ability to store streaming media assets on a centralized OIT server. Due to hardware and software upgrades made in June 2003 the server can be expected to have a 99% uptime and is capable of streaming many different kinds of assets including MPEG1, MPEG2, MPEG4, MP3, QuickTime*, Windows Media, Real Media, and Flash.
