Executive Summary

Services

The OIT Telecommunications group provides and supports voice services (telephone and associated communication services) to the GT campuses. A Nortel CS2100 VoIP telecommunications switch serves the main campus. Traditional telephone lines (local and long distance), Voice over IP (VoIP), and telephone company circuits are supported. Other GT locations are still served by their local telecommunications providers (AT&T, etc.). 

The Telecommunication services that currently are supported on the main Atlanta campus are:

  • Telephone Lines served directly from AT&T (Centrex or 1FB)

    • ISDN BRI Lines (Primarily GTRI and video conferencing)

    • GT PBX-based audio conferencing
    • Qwest Conference Call Services

Service Information and Metrics

OIT Telecom currently supports:

  • 13,138 analog, digital and IP lines served from the Georgia Tech telecommunications switch on the main Atlanta campus
  • 1,110 AT&T Centrex Lines on the main campus (To meet Building Code requirements and locations not on GT Network)
  • Contracts for 620 GTA/DOAS Lines and Circuits around the state (GT Savannah, GTRI Cobb County/NEETRAC, EDI, etc.)
  • Manages and monitors 351 Emergency Phones/Courtesy Phones/Elevator Phones on the main campus (Gai-tronics)
  • Update and verification of telephone numbers and room numbers for E911 records for the main campus
  • Over 80,000 minutes of audio conferences in 2009

 

Goals for FY 2010

 

  • Support Audio Conferencing on a production-basis with toll free (800 number) access for the campus
  • Support Nortel Contact Center call center capabilities for the campus
  • Clean up and automate telecommunications billing for the campus
