The Office of Information Technology (OIT) strives to make valuable resources available to the researchers on campus. We have summarized the resources we provide. High Performance ComputingThe High Performance Computing (HPC) group provides support to faculty and students in accessing and using the high performance systems provided by the Office of Information Technology. The group accepts applications from faculty for research done on Georgia Tech systems, and promotes efficient use of these systems through training, consulting, and policy formulation. The HPC complex provides approximately 30,000 compute hours to about 20 people per month. On an annual basis, this comes to about 350,000 hours to 65 people. The HPC group's accomplishments include assistance on a wide range of models such as Climate Change, Molecular Dynamics, Materials Science, Structural Analysis, Water Quality and Flow, and Aircraft Simulation. Sponsors for this work include NASA, NSF, NIH, NOAA, DoE, DoD, and others. The HPC group is proud to have assisted many people in achieving their advanced degrees. The group also serves as application liaison for those who need the bandwidth and services offered by Internet2. These applications typically include grid computing, distance learning, and video conferencing, but other novel uses are anticipated and encouraged. Scientific Visualization LaboratoryThe focus of the Scientific Visualization Laboratory within Academic and Research Technologies is interdisciplinary and open to all researchers and educators at Georgia Tech. The SciVis lab provides cutting-edge tools and techniques for analyzing and visualizing complex scientific data. With powerful graphics workstations in the SciVis lab and personal desktop PCs, researchers are able to view results using high resolution, true color graphics, three-dimensional solid modeling, even animation. With all these means of displaying information, researchers have the capability to comprehend visual patterns and dynamical relationships of great complexity, providing them with profoundly useful tools for analyzing and understanding scientific data. We expect that in developing their methods of scientific visualization, users will not only employ currently available modeling, design, and display software, but will also forge new types of visualization methods that will be especially suited to their data. Video ConferencingThe Instructional Technologies Development Center (ITDC) is room 242 in the Rich Building. This room is outfitted with a full complement of the latest teaching and presentation technologies and is made available to any faculty member who wishes to use it. This room has great potential and it is up to the user to explore that potential. To find out how to reserve the ITDC, go to the ITDC reservation form and policies page. |
