The Office of Information Technology provides SSL certificates signed by a locally maintained root certificate. OIT does not provide commercial certificate services such as Verisign, Thawte, Geotrust. If you require a certificate from a published certificate authority (one that exists within the browsers or other applications by default) then you should contact your desired vendor directly.
As a general recommendation, GT signed certificates are best utilized on:
- Services that have a small supportable user group (as generally the GT Root is not installed and you will need to provide some assistance to your users)
- Services that are not accessed from a wide variety of machines where the user has little or no administrative control on (such as central mail services where a customer might access them from an internet cafe).

If you access GT web services that utilize the Georgia Tech Server Certificate Root, you will need to install the root into your browsers. Other software (such as e-mail software) may require the assistance of the server administrator.
