Campus student residences are equipped with Internet connection ports and cabling for students' personal computers. To set up your connection, you are required to register your computer with the appropriate administrative group, ResNet for a residence hall or EastNet for a sorority or fraternity residence. The ResNet or EastNet system administrator will ask you for the Ethernet address of your computer's network card, and add it to the DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) service. The campus network uses DHCP to dynamically allocate IP addresses to student computers. To connect your computer to the Internet from a student residence, this is what you need:
Residence HallsStudents living in residence halls can connect to the campus network through ResNet. If you are in a ResNet equipped residence hall, then you need to register your computer with DHCP to be issued an IP address. ResNet will ask you for the Ethernet address of your network card. For more information: Go to the ResNet site (http://www.resnet.gatech.edu) Contact a Residential Technology Advisor (RTA) at the ResNet Office:
Fraternities and SororitiesStudents living in fraternities and sororities can connect to the campus network through EastNet. If you are a Fraternity or Sorority member living in one of the EastNet equipped Greek Houses, then you will need to register your computer with the DHCP service to be issued an IP address. EastNet will ask you for the Ethernet address of your network card. For more information: Go to the EastNet site (http://www.eastnet.gatech.edu) Contact your House Technical Assistant (HTA) (find your HTA) Using the Wireless/Walkup NetworkFind out how to connect your mobile computing device to the Georgia Tech LAWN (Local Area Wireless/Walkup Network). Off CampusYou cannot connect directly to the Georgia Tech network from off campus, but you can access many Georgia Tech computing resources remotely via the Internet. To use the Internet off campus, you will need to establish a network connection through a commercial Internet Service Provider. More Information |
